Premium Quality for sustainable wood construction
“Premium Quality“ for sustainable wood construction:
Pfleiderer presents LivingBoard and StyleBoard MDF.RWH
At the BAU trade show in Munich from 16 to 21 January 2017 Pfleiderer presented with LivingBoard and StyleBoard MDF.RWH the perfect product combination for diffusion-permeable, low VOC emission and technologically high-quality timber frame construction. The recent award for LivingBoard is proof of this. The “Premium Quality” label awarded by the German Qualitätsgemeinschaft Holzwerkstoffe was recently given to the classic formaldehyde-free bonded panel. Pfleiderer is the first company to carry this quality seal.
New energy saving regulations, revised building regulations of German federal states and trends such as green building or healthy building design demand materials that meet very high functional, ecological and economic requirements, says Claus Seeman, head of product management core materials at Pfleiderer: “With LivingBoard and StyleBoard MDF.RWH we are setting standards. These technologically mature wood-based panels are not only very ecological with low emissions, but as comprehensive tests have shown, they also perfectly complement each other.”
StyleBoard MDF.RWH is weather-proof
Specifiers and processors must no longer resort to less sustainable solutions, if they need, in addition to LivingBoard, a diffusion-permeable material for load-bearing applications in humid areas – for instance as a second water-repellent layer for the roof. StyleBoard MDF.RWH is a medium-density fibreboard from Pfleiderer. Its special tongue and groove profile withstands any weather condition. “This class UDP-A panel is also suited as rainproof sub-roof and temporary roofing,“ confirms Seemann.
All those who intend to build sustainably will have more possibilities to use wood in the future, says Seemann: “Many processors even consider LivingBoard a better alternative to OSB.” After all, thanks to its formaldehyde-free bonding and the special wood mix, this material can also be used where high demands on indoor air quality and consequently low VOC values are made. However, this is by far not the only advantage of LivingBoard, says Seemann.
Blue Angel and Green Building labels confirm sustainablity
With its isotropic strength properties in all directions this uniform wood-based panel is also absolutely user-safe and minimizes cutting waste. In addition, it has a lower thickness swelling. Together with an optimized chip size and a higher and uniform raw density, LivingBoard has a much better airborne sound insulation and a lower burn up rate than standard OSB.Therefore, LivingBoard carries the Blue Angel label, although in January the eco-label’s requirements were tightened in terms of formaldehyde emissions, and limits for VOC emissions were included. For 37 years, the coveted eco-label has stood for high-quality environment-friendly products with very low emissions. Made of low-resin woods without recycled material, LivingBoard is a certified green building product and is the only wood-based panel to be certified to LEED in the form of faced DecoBoard Living.
